Why is it that some women (AND men) with rusty feet decide to wear sandals and open-toed shoes in public?

K, I won’t wear open sandals in public if you promise to wear a bag over your face. The worst is when I’m at a restaurant and some hideously ugly dude walks in and makes me lose my appetite.

Yes, I agree. It doesn’t take that much time in the shower to remove callouses and dead skin…
However, painting the toe nails gets exhausting. That is why I have my boyfriend paint mine.

People with foot problems have the right to wear whatever shoes they choose. Many people can’t afford Pedicures but they need to keep their feet cool in hot weather the same as those who can. There seems to be a bit of snobbery in your question and who made you the fashion police regarding what foot wear anybody can wear. Maybe you shouldn’t be looking at their feet. Look into their faces, smile, and say hello.

You are so right on!!!! I have a lady who sits next to me at work and all summer the cow wears sandals and she has the NASTIEST damn feet ever!!!!! The rotten toenails and calluses – UGH!!!! She has never bothered to take the time to even ATTEMPT to put some polish on!!! I refuse to show my feet unless my nails are PERFECT and my feet have been scrubbed and softened!!! It is so totally disgusting to see ugly bare feet!!!!!!

There are other reasons apart from fashion to wear sandals, you know… sandals are much more comfortable and healthier than closed shoes; in fact closed shoes, ill-fitting shoes and heels are a major cause of feet looking awful in the first place. People who don’t have pretty feet still have the right to be comfortable; would you require people who have acne to wear a mask?

I agree totally with you. While not all people can afford bi-weekly pedicures, I’m pretty sure most people CAN afford soap, hot water and a pair of toe nail clippers. It doesn’t take much to keep your feet looking decent at home.
I was thinking this this morning, actually. I see this woman on the train nearly every day, and she just needs to stop. Seriously, just give up and stop lady, ’cause you’re not accomplishing anything.
She’s about 45 – 50 years old, total Tammy Faye Baaker make up routine, dresses (year round) in capri pants, tshirts and a sweater (with the arms of the sweater tied around her neck–almost like she’s wearing a cape. She has her hair all brushed and sprayed to look like some 1950s movie star, and she wears open toed/open heeled shoes. Her feet are NASTY. No, not nasty, NASTEEE. Seriously, it makes me sick. When I get off the train at the station and go up the escalator, I can NEVER get in front of her, and I’m usually stuck riding up behind her, then following her through the shops on my way to work. Her heels are the most repulsive thing I’ve ever seen. They’re totally totally THICK with white, cracked callouses. The kind of dry, flaky callouses that look like she could run her heels over a cheese grater and it would powder/flake away. WHY, if you know you like to wear open heeled shoes, can’t you either buy yourself a pumice stone or spend the $25 bucks once a month to get a pedicure???

I am a woman with pretty nice looking feet. I often wear open toe strappy looking sandals with a two inch heel. I get a monthly pedicure which helps my feet look healthy and polished.
However, I do not believe a pedicure can make up for seriously ugly feet. I have seen women and men that have a third toe that is an inch longer than the others, while having other toes that are crooked, pointing every which way, callouses and bunions too.
Some people should never wear open sandals at all. I have someone in my life that has very ugly feet and wears flip flops all the time. IF YOU DON’T HAVE DECENT LOOKING FEET, KEEP THEM UNDER WRAPS! I don’t want to look at them.
