How Old is Too Old to wear Forever 21, Abercrombie, Urban Outfitters, or anything in Junior Sizes?

dirtyvelvet asked:

I’m watching What Not to Wear. This hairstylist is about 28-29 and she still shops in the “Junior” section. How old do you think is too old to be shopping at collegiate/teen/junior/of-the-moment style stores and when you should start shopping at Banana Republic or J. Crew?!

My sister is 32 and she still shops at these stores, but she also is a hippie/free-spirit with no coporate style job. Does this matter or do you think, like me, she should “start dressing more her age”?

i think 30 is a good age to start dressing and shoping in the “Adult”dept
if adults (any one over 30) wears clothes for younger people it just makes them look older and a little Tacky.
good luck with your sister but reamber always do what feels best dont do it just because you saw it on T.V

When your ***** sit in your lap, your *** sags in the jeans, and your hair line is receeding. These clothes are made 4 the young and fabulous. Then again “age ain’t nuthin but a number”. So if look good in it ,you should wear them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so it’s all on the shopper.

idk, becuase at my school a majority of the teachers are right out of college, most are between ages 24-28 and a lot of the teachers wear clothes that look like they were bought from forever 21/a&f/urban outfitters, etc.
but some of them can pull it off well so i applaud them =]

I agree with the two above

Hey! I’m watching that too! I think a good age to stop shopping there is about 25.

I think you can still shop there. I’m 32 and shop those places. But I also stay away from the trendier styles and stick to more basic pieces.

I think once you hit your mid twenty’s it’s time to grow up and dress more classic and *****. I’m sure there are a few items that could work in those store for “non teenie boppers” but in most cases the cuts of these clothes is all wrong. The Loft, Banana Republic, Maurices, New York and Co. are some great stores for us women who are in that “in-between stage” We’re not quite Missy and not Jr’s anymore.

At 25 you shouldn’t be borrowing your 17 year old cousin’s clothes, or your 50 year old Mother’s clothes!!

OMG i love that show! im watching it now..lol..well i think their is no age limit..well maybe if you were shopping at kid stores..but your not so…but if you must have an age i guess i would say like 33-42 would be good..

i don’t think it really matters how old you are. if it fits and looks good and you’r happy, then that’s all that matters. however, when you’re in your sixties and have sagging boobs, waering low-cut shirts isn’t the best idea. :p hey, good luck and God bless! :)

i think you could always wear those kind of clothes as long as you fit in them. i’m mean like a 30 year shouldnt be wearing like a shirt that has hollister printed across it, but she could wear a cute babydoll tee.

I think, and Ive heard this before, (im thinking from cosmo, maybe?) that usually at about the age of 30 is when its time to switch to more “adult” stores at the mall. However, it also really depends on a persons body type. These clothes are typically designed for high school students and college students….and others around that age group.

I’d say that 30 is a good age to start dressing more ‘older’, especially if you have a job that requires you to dress nice. The “Junior” department is made for teens and women in their young 20s who didn’t want to dress like their moms once they don’t fit into the kids clothes!

I see some women who are well into their 40s dressing like teenagers and I just cringe. They look like they’re in denial about their age and think that they can dress and act exactly like they did when they were in their teens and 20s. Some even have grandkids!

I think your sister can dress however she wants to (it’s her choice and her life), and you said she was a free spirit. But she should realize that she needs to grow up sometime! You can’t be 20 forever ;)

I think it depends on the person’s style, figure, personality…rather than age. Some people in their late 30s who look younger, have cute figures and fun personalities can wear cute junior fashions and it doesn’t ridiculous. It just depends on the person.

it’s called the junior section for a reason…young people are supposed to shop there…I’d say after college graduation…

I’m 29 and Asian…people think I look younger than my real age. I have two daughters under age of 5. Now that people are having kids at later age in life, i get looked down upon because they think i am younger than they are..and think i had kids in my teen years, think I’m a nanny, or gonna use the race card…just because I do live in a rich white neighborhood…don’t know what else it could be, I think I’m pretty terrific and I would want to be friends with me.  Once people actually talk and get to know me, the would totally agree with me…which is sad, cause it is a big process of making friends.  I wish adults make friends like a 4 year old…grab a bucket and shovel and ask the first kid they see to play with him/her.

I don’t want to change for no one. Not my hair, make up, the way I dress…but living in a society that constantly judges, it’s hard not to think to tweek a little of yourself to meet other peoples standards.

I came across this blog cause I had the same question…only because Its cold and I am online shopping for new sweatpants and sweatshirts…preferably with hoodies…I am planning to buy more than 5 sets of outfits for affordable price…winter sales are everywhere!!  Abercrombie and aeropostal are known to have really stylish warm comfortable clothing…I am not a walking billboard or a brand whore, just want to be comfortable and look how I feel…my inner age of 21.  So I don’t see why age matters, people are going to judge regardless.
