Maybe A&F and Hollister are for young teenagers who have somewhat “preppy” style and can’t afford the stores you listed, or just like Hollister and A&F because everyone else wears it so they think it’s cool.

Brands like abercrombie, American Eagle, Hollister, etc. are clothing brands normal teenagers wear.

Brands like Ralph Lauren, J.Crew, Brook Brothers, etc. are preppy brands.

I go to a prep school, and I don’t think Abercrombie and Hollister, or whatever that Aeropostale crap **** is, are at all preppy. They’re disgusting, directed towards middle class fools who want to look wealthy and “trendy”, (emphasis on LOOK) and they think they’re so cool wearing ABERCROMBIE on their crappy and overpriced sweatshirt with a bunch of dumbass holes in it. Unfortunately, I do own some abercrombie oxford shirts, but I always wear them under a sweater if I decide to wear it to school. Big mistake in buying them anyways. Besides, the store is annoying and the cologne smells like ***. And I would add Lacoste, Sperry, Vineyard Vines, Brooks Brothers, LL Bean, and North Face/Patagonia/Columbia (based on preference) to the prep list, but get rid of Banana Republic.

You are so right. The clothes are so boring and everyone shops from them and wears them which makes It even more boring-er. I don’t get the people who shop their why would they want to dress up like everyone else. The clothes are super lame.The shirts are just like a regular t shirt except they just have A B E R C R O M B I E or Hollister written across the front to show wear they shop from and they think their so cool and ****. But It’s not because It just makes them all look the same plain boring and just like everyone else but whatever If that’s where they like to shop then that’s them. I prefer to shop at stores that don’t have the store name written across the front like Kohl’s or something similar to that their just as good except maybe better cause you got more to choose from.

Yeah. But preppy has a double meaning here. It’s so much easier to say than “California Casual Cool Comfortable” style. Because that’s just way too many syllables. You just have to dig around in the context of what’s being said to understand the meaning implied. Which is never hard to do.

And I agree, they’re polar opposites. I would wear Banana Republic preppy, but never Hollister preppy. It’s just laziness on our part to not give the Hollister/Abercrombie thing a name to itself. But it’s nothing to get passionately angry about.

For the record, Hollister doesn’t think of itself as “preppy”. It’s more of a..laidback surfer/punk style in reality. That would be why you can only wear their flip flops and VANS.
