why are jeans different prices in different stores?
Yup! asked:
I mean like Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic they are from the same company and they have different prices. Aren’t they made from the same material and same sewing machines?? Why the difference in pricing? And that goes for other stores as well like American Eagle, Buckle, Aerocrambie, etc….they are all made from the same materials and there is no big difference in styling. I just don’t get why they can’t all be cheap and same price.
Abercrombie……..SORRY!

You’re paying for the name and thats it. Same material and all. It sucks, but we all do it.

There is a difference in quality. Abercrombie tends to be of higher quality than that American Eagle. Other than that… It’s all about branding… Thanks to marketing, we’re paying ridiculously high prices for a simple pair of distressed jeans.

Well, if you ever notice, it’s like that with everything. Like Wal*Mart and Sam’s. Same food company, way different prices. Really, the jeans are slightly different. But that’s not why the prices are different. Location is everything. I live in a really small town, so I only have the less expensive stores. But in bigger cities, like Birmingham and Montgomery there are big stores like Banana Republic and Abercrombie. They place their stores strategically so that they can make the best profit.

These stores buy directly from the Manufacturer but then they do their own pricing in their store. It is all based on the percentage they charge in order to do business.
These big box stores like Old Navy, Gap etc have much overhead before they make a profit. They know that if they add 100% to the price they pay they can pay the bills and then make 30% profit. If there profit margin is 30% they are doing well.
The same jeans can be sold in Walmart for half the price because Walmart buys in bulk (the more store they have the better for them and they get better prices on the stuff they purchase) keeps the prices lower since they have such a large customer base. Walmart fills their shelves every night that is how much they sell so they can afford to sell cheap.
It is all about the big picture and the profit margin.
People who frequent the Expensive Independant Store always pay more. So you can look like your a rich consumer while the other guy is the smart consumer. It is all in where and how you shop.

It all depends on the supply/demand of the area, the shipping/proccessing to place the merchandise in the area, how long the jeans have been in shelf, the store (if it’s new, closing, or have a bad sales month/week) for many reasons, it’s all about location, time, economics, and buying power of the locals.

Even though I don’t support the steep price difference betwee n them there does tend to be a difference in the quality of denim used between AE, Hollister & Abercrombie. You can feel it if you try to feel the denim. Remember I read a article that it takes just $2-$5 to make a Denim in SriLanka for the big brands like Ck, RL and others but they sell it here for 100+ bucks. Due to low labor cost in those countries and also the currency exchange.
