Clothing Store Cont?

jimmy choo
j_n asked:

I eventually want to open up a high end women’s retail store. I was planning on opening it up in Chicago. I figure it’s one of the biggest fashion areas between NYC and LA. I don’t know if I should feature underground designers or carry well-known designers. I don’t know if I should carry more than one designer for different accessories. (ex. louis vuitton bags, jimmy choo shoes) What should I do?

I think you should carry a combination of both. You probably don’t want to put completely unknown designers, but desingers that aren’t as popular as others. Also, maybe designers clothing, shoes, ect that you can’t find everywhere else. Like their are certain products that people can’t find a lot of place becuase everybody wants them, so make your inventory have a lot of those items. Like at the moment the chanel stud logo earrings are very popular and are like sold out in a lot of places.

You should go first with well known brands… and start by adding a few new brands…

    Variety is the KEY !!

I think the coolest high end stores are the ones that have their own sense of style. Find new and/or well-known fashion designers whose styles you really like. Do you read a lot of fashion magazines? Lucky usually has a shopping section at the end of their magazine that gives you a tour through shopping neighborhoods. Check that out and see what they say. A lot of times little out of the way boutiques catch their eye because of the eclectic or vintage or off the wall or (insert word here)collections. A store works best when it has the owner’s sense of style ingrained in it. And don’t go to Chicago just because it’s the next biggest thing to LA And NYC. Go there if you really want to go there. There are high end boutiques all over the country, including Atlanta, Nashville, Houston, even here in my little Mentor OH. Go where you want to go and make it work.

    Good luck!

PS – I would go with more than one designer if I didn’t make that clear before.

I would go with unknown designers…there are a lot of people who don’t want to pay designer retail prices, so if you carry underground designers, you might be able to give people a better prices for repeat business. Good luck to you in your adventure!

You can get your very own designer bag from for free. All you have to do is fill out the survey. My girlfriend got her bag from that site and all she had to do was choose the bag she wanted and enter in her email address.
