I had bunion surgery about 3 years ago and I know other's who have had it with similar results. The procedure itself I did not find difficult/painful and yes, you will have to wear a flat surgical shoe for a while afterwards; I think the amount of time you have to wear it after surgery is between your doctor and you. (Depends on how you feel and how quickly you heel.) I cannot wear a heeled shoe over about 2 inches period. I have a hard time getting my foot/toes to "bend" to even get into them. When I do wear a heel it is only for short periods of time - you know a couple of hours while going out to a dressy affair, dinner, etc. My doctor recommended nothing over about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 but you know how difficult it is to find something dressy with a heel that low????? Anyway, again I think the bottom line is it is a personal thing. Would your doctor recommend it - probably not. Mine told me that is probably one of the major reasons I developed bunions in the first place. Can it be done - that depends on you.

Well, the whole idea of the surgery is so that you can wear pretty high heels again. Yes, you will be able to. Your feet will be in bandages for a while and if you get both sides done at once you will be using crutches. Eventually, you will be quite normal.
